What is Rejuvenation Qigong?
Rejuvenation Qigong, also known as Rejuvenating Medical Qigong, was developed by the Chinese Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the 1970s. It blends the wisdom of ancient Chinese health practices - Daoyin techniques, massage therapy, health preservation methods, and acupuncture theory - with modern knowledge in medicine, anatomy, biology, and preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitation sciences.
Rooted in the Traditional Chinese Medicine theories of meridians and internal organ health, Rejuvenation Qigong has helped countless people improve physical strength, recover from illness, and restore youthfulness of both body and mind. It requires no equipment and is suitable for all ages, genders, occupations, and physical conditions.
The Origin Story-A Master’s Recovery
I have two Tai Chi masters, Ms. Chen and Mr. Wang they are a couple.
Many years ago, my master, Ms. Chen, suffered from severe arthritis in her hands. This condition developed after years of washing clothes in icy water during the harsh winters. At its worst, her fingers could barely bend, affecting her daily life profoundly.
She sought help from hospitals, but the doctors could offer no effective treatment. Feeling helpless, she turned to her mother-in-law for advice. The elderly lady said:
“Come and practice Rejuvenation Qigong with me.”
With nothing to lose, my master began training under her guidance. After several months, her fingers regained flexibility. Within half a year, she could freely use her hands again. The doctors who had once declared her condition untreatable were amazed - they called it a miracle.
From that time on, my master Ms. Chen not only taught Tai Chi but also introduced Rejuvenation Qigong to those in need. At my masters' martial arts school, it became common to see my master Mr. Wang leading Tai Chi students while his wife Ms. Chen guided another group in Qigong practice, the whole place filled with energy and joy.
An Inspiring Example-Grandma at 82
In 2014, I taught a summer class in China and stayed with my Taichi master & their mother. I called her Grandma. Every morning, as we went out for training, I would see Grandma already in the courtyard, practicing Rejuvenation Qigong with focus and dedication.
That year, she was 82 years old - yet her hearing was sharp, her eyesight clear, her mind quick and organized. She read books, browsed the newspaper, practiced Qigong, and even did needlework with remarkable precision. Her cheerful spirit and boundless energy were infectious.
I still remember two vivid images of her:
Biting into a large apple without cutting it into pieces, strong teeth and all.
Standing tall in the morning light, practicing Rejuvenation Qigong with calm devotion.
Her daily routine was simple but disciplined: wake up early, drink a glass of warm water, practice Rejuvenation Qigong, and then begin the day’s activities. When I met her, she had already been practicing for over 40 years.
One afternoon, she called me over and said with a gentle smile:
“I hear you’re shearing Taichi in Australia - that’s meaningful thing. Let me teach you Rejuvenation Qigong too, so you can pass it on to those who need it.”
That was how I was fortunate enough to learn this precious art.
A Life of Dedication
According to my master, Grandma had once been an accountant. At the age of forty, she wanted to learn Rejuvenation Qigong and initially joined a group in the park. But she soon realized that simply following along without true understanding would not lead to mastery.
She bought a gift and visited a well-known local teacher to formally apprentice under him. For the rest of her life, she practiced only this one form of Qigong — and practiced it daily, without fail.
My Own Story – Healing a Wrist Injury
In the summer of 2018, while training with long weapons (the pear blossom spear), I mistakenly picked up the wrong weapon and badly sprained my wrist. For nearly six months, I could not use my right hand freely — even lifting light objects was painful.
Determined to recover, I practiced Rejuvenation Qigong, Pingshuai Qigong, and Taiji Cloud Hands daily, for 90–120 minutes. During the first month, my wrist often felt sore, but I knew this was part of the healing process. Gradually, the pain subsided.
Then one day, I realized I could once again use my right hand with full strength. In less than three months, the injury had completely healed. Today, unless I point it out, you would never know my wrist was injured — though if you compare both wrists closely, you can see the bone on my right wrist sits slightly higher, a reminder of what once was. This recovery was nothing short of amazing.
The Thread of Fate
In Chinese culture, we believe in yuán fèn (缘分) — the invisible thread of destiny that connects people and experiences.
♡ My grandmother’s connection to Rejuvenation Qigong began with her teacher.
♡ My master’s connection came through my grandmother.
♡ My connection came through both of them.
♡ And now, your connection is through me.
I hope this chain of goodwill continues to grow, reaching more people, and allowing many to benefit from the health, vitality, and joy that Rejuvenation Qigong brings.
To be continued… May all beings live in peace with a smile~ Prusha
